General questions
What is Bali Bloom Day Care?
Bali Bloom Day Care (balibloomdaycare.com) is a babysitting and nanny service in Bali, Indonesia, with over 15 years of experience caring for children. We provide English-speaking, life support trained babysitters and nannies to families on holiday (at villas, hotels and resorts) and to expat and local families who live in Bali, for anything from a five-hour evening booking to a full-time live-in nanny.
Which areas of Bali do you cover?
All of the main family areas: Seminyak, Petitenget and Kerobokan, Canggu, Berawa and Pererenan, Kuta, Legian and Tuban, Jimbaran, Uluwatu and the Bukit (Pecatu, Bingin, Padang Padang, Balangan, Ungasan), Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa, Sanur and Ubud. The east, north and west coasts and the nearby islands are covered by arrangement, usually with a live-in or travelling nanny.
How are your babysitters and nannies vetted?
Every carer is interviewed in person by us, has their identity documents and references checked, and has real childcare experience, often as a mother, a villa nanny or a kids' club or school worker. Every carer completes BIMC Hospital's basic life support (CPR) course before her first booking, as Kadek has, and speaks good English. We only send people we know personally and would trust with our own children.
How much does a babysitter cost in Bali?
Babysitting is IDR 100,000 an hour for one child (about AUD 8), 120,000 for two and 150,000 for three, with a 5-hour minimum and a transport fee of IDR 100,000 per visit. A full day of 8 hours is 750,000 for one child, overnight care starts at 1,000,000 and a live-in nanny is 1,400,000 a night. Supplements apply after 10pm, on public holidays and for babies under 12 months. Prices are set in rupiah and shown in six other currencies on our price list. No agency fees. Your written quote confirms the exact price.
How do I book?
Message us on WhatsApp or send the booking enquiry on this website with your dates, where you are staying, the number and ages of your children and the kind of care you need. We confirm availability, send a quote and introduce your sitter, usually within a few hours. Bookings are confirmed with a deposit.
What ages do you look after?
Newborns to teenagers. We match the carer to the age: infant specialists for babies under one, energetic sitters for toddlers and primary-age children, and companion-style sitters for older children and teens who mostly need an adult around.
Do you look after children with additional needs?
Yes, where we have a carer with the right experience. Tell us about your child's needs when you enquire and we will be honest about whether we can match them well. Several of our carers have experience with autism, ADHD and physical disabilities.
What is included in a babysitting booking?
Care, play and supervision for your children at your villa, hotel or resort, following your routines for meals, naps and bedtime, plus light tidying of the children's things. Sitters bring simple games and craft materials. Cooking for the children, pool supervision and accompanying you on outings are all included; meals and entry fees for outings are at cost.
How much notice do you need?
Twenty-four hours is usually enough outside the peak season, and same-day bookings are sometimes possible. For June to August, Christmas, New Year and Easter, and for live-in nannies at any time, please book a week or more in advance. Bookings are confirmed with a 30% deposit.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 48 hours before the start and your deposit is refunded in full. Between 24 and 48 hours, half of the first day is charged. Within 24 hours, or for a no-show, the first day or the minimum booking is charged. Live-in bookings need 7 days' notice. The full terms are on our booking terms page.
Can I keep the same babysitter for my whole stay?
Yes, and we recommend it. Children settle faster with a familiar face, so for stays of more than a couple of days we book the same sitter for every session where her availability allows.
Do you provide a car seat or transport?
Sitters travel to you by their own transport. For outings and activity days we arrange a private car and driver, with child seats on request, charged at cost. We can also recommend baby equipment hire companies in Bali that deliver car seats, cots, prams and sterilisers to your villa or hotel.
What languages do your carers speak?
All of our carers speak English and Bahasa Indonesia, and most speak Balinese. Some also speak Mandarin, Japanese, French or Dutch; let us know if a particular language matters for your children.
How do you keep children safe around pools and at the beach?
Young children are never left unsupervised near water, and in the water they stay within arm's reach of the carer. We follow your rules on when and where the children swim, use swim vests where you provide them, and prefer the calm, reef-protected beaches at Sanur and Nusa Dua for swimming with little ones. Seminyak, Canggu and Kuta surf beaches are for sand play only with young children.
What happens if my child is unwell or there is an emergency?
Your carer contacts you immediately and, if needed, takes your child to the nearest clinic or international hospital. Southern Bali has 24-hour international hospitals in Kuta and Nusa Dua and well-equipped private hospitals in Denpasar and Ubud. We ask for your travel insurance and emergency contact details with every booking.
How do I pay?
A deposit confirms your booking and the balance is paid at the end of the booking or weekly for longer stays. We accept bank transfer, major credit and debit cards and Indonesian rupiah in cash at the day's rate. Prices are set in Australian dollars; our rates page shows a guide in other currencies.
Holiday Babysitting
How much notice do I need to book a babysitter in Bali?
We can often place a babysitter with 24 hours' notice, and sometimes the same day, but during the peak months of June to August, Christmas and Easter we recommend booking a week or more ahead so you get your first choice of sitter and times.
Will the babysitter come to my hotel or villa?
Yes. Babysitters come to you anywhere in Bali, including private villas, hotels and resorts in Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud. Most hotels are happy for an external babysitter to look after children in your room; we can speak to the front desk if needed.
What is the minimum booking?
Five hours for babysitting, day or evening. Full days are 8 hours, the holiday nanny package covers 5 or more days with the same carer, and live-in nannies are booked per night from 5 nights.
Do your babysitters speak English?
Yes. All of our babysitters speak good conversational English as well as Bahasa Indonesia, and many speak Balinese. Several also speak some Mandarin, Japanese or French; tell us if a particular language matters to your family.
Live-in Holiday Nanny
What do I need to provide for a live-in nanny in Bali?
A private room or staff quarters to sleep in, meals while she is working, and reasonable rest time each day plus a day off each week. Most villa managers can confirm whether a staff room is available. Everything else, including her wages and our vetting, is in the quoted weekly rate.
What hours does a live-in nanny work?
We agree this with you in advance. A typical pattern is up to 10 to 12 hours of care a day across six days, split around the children's routine (for example 7am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm), with a full day off. Overnight settling of babies can be included by arrangement.
Can we meet the nanny before we book?
Yes. For live-in bookings we arrange a short video call so you can meet the nanny, ask questions and make sure it feels right. If you are already in Bali we can arrange a meet-and-greet at your villa.
Is a live-in nanny suitable for babies?
Yes. We have nannies who specialise in newborns and infants, including bottle preparation, sterilising, settling and safe sleep. Tell us your baby's age and routine and we will match accordingly.
Evening & Date-Night Babysitting
How late can an evening babysitter stay?
As late as you need. Most evening bookings finish between 10pm and midnight, but sitters can stay until 2am or later, or stay overnight. Bookings after midnight carry a small late-night supplement, and we arrange the sitter's transport home.
Will the babysitter put the children to bed?
Yes. Dinner, bath, teeth, stories and settling are all part of an evening booking. Tell us the routine at handover and the sitter follows it. Babies and toddlers who wake are resettled, and you are messaged if anything is out of the ordinary.
Do you provide babysitters for weddings in Bali?
Yes. We regularly look after wedding guests' children, either with a sitter per family at the villa or hotel, or with a small team running a supervised kids' room at the wedding venue. Tell us the venue, timings and the number and ages of children and we will plan it with you.
Hotel & Resort Babysitting
Do Bali hotels allow outside babysitters?
In our experience, yes. Most hotels and resorts in Bali are happy for an external babysitter to care for your children in your room or around the resort; some ask the sitter to sign in and show ID, which ours carry. If you are unsure, send us the hotel name and we will confirm with them before your stay.
Can the babysitter supervise my children at the resort pool?
Yes. Our sitters can swim and are used to supervising children in pools and at the beach. We follow your rules on where and when the children swim, and younger children stay within arm's reach in the water.
Which resort areas do you cover?
All of them: Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa, Jimbaran, Uluwatu and the Bukit, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, Ubud and the north and east coasts by arrangement.
Newborn & Infant Care
Can you look after a newborn in Bali?
Yes. We have carers who specialise in newborns and young babies, including feeding, winding, settling, nappies and safe sleep. Tell us your baby's age, feeding method and routine and we will match a carer with the right experience.
Do infant carers follow our routine and feeding method?
Exactly as you describe it. Breastfed babies are brought to you for feeds; bottle-fed babies get your formula at your quantities and times. Sleep routines, white noise, swaddles, dummies and everything else you use are followed.
Is the tap water in Bali safe for making up formula?
No. Tap water in Bali is not safe to drink. Our carers use bottled or filtered water for formula and for washing bottles, and boil water for sterilising. Most villas provide large bottled water dispensers; we can also recommend baby equipment hire companies that deliver sterilisers.
Overnight Babysitting
Can a babysitter stay overnight in Bali?
Yes. Overnight sitters and night nannies stay at your villa or hotel from the evening until the morning. Night nannies stay awake for feeds and settling; sleep-over sitters rest nearby and get up when the children do. Both include the bedtime routine and breakfast.
Where does the overnight sitter sleep?
In the children's room, a spare bed or a sofa, whatever is available. For night nannies looking after a baby, somewhere to rest in between feeds is enough.
Can we go away for the night and leave the children with a sitter?
Yes, and many families do. We ask that the children have had at least one daytime session with the sitter first, that you leave full contact and medical details, and that you are reachable by phone. We message you updates through the evening and in the morning.
Kids' Activity Days
What age do children need to be for an activity day?
Activity days work best from about three years old, when children are happy to be out all day with a nanny. For younger children we suggest a shorter half-day outing, or a beach or pool day closer to your villa.
Is Waterbom Bali suitable for young children?
Yes. Waterbom in Kuta has shallow pools and a kids' area for toddlers and young children as well as the big slides for older kids and teens, with gazebos for shade. The larger slides have height restrictions, so tell us your children's heights and we will plan the day so nobody is disappointed.
Do you arrange transport for activity days?
Yes. We book a private car with a driver we know, with child seats on request, so the nanny can give the children her full attention. The car is charged at cost on top of the nanny's day rate.
Nannies for Expat & Local Families
How do you vet nannies for long-term placements?
We interview every nanny in person, check their identity documents and references from previous families, and confirm their childcare experience and basic life support training. We only put forward nannies we know personally or who come recommended by families we have worked with.
Can we do a trial before committing to a nanny?
Yes. We recommend a paid trial day or two so you can see how the nanny is with your children and in your home before agreeing a start date.
What happens on Balinese holidays like Nyepi and Galungan?
Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, closes the whole island for 24 hours, including the airport, and Balinese staff spend Galungan and Kuningan with their families. We explain the calendar when you hire, so you can plan around it, and we can arrange cover with non-Balinese carers where that is appropriate.
